TikTok stays in app stores as U.S. judge temporarily blocks ban

A federal judge in Washington has granted TikTok’s motion for a preliminary injunction. Thereby preventing President Trump’s TikTok ban from taking effect September 27 as originally expected.

Judge Carl J. Nichols made the ruling on the evening of Sunday, September 27. Just hours before the popular TikTok app was set to be pulled from app stores by Apple and Google.

It means that for the time being at least, anyone who hasn’t yet downloaded the app will be able to do so. It also means that TikTok will be able to continue to push updates to the app.

The court will now assess whether the TikTok app is a risk to national security. It is the reason Trump gave when signing an executive order in August to ban the software unless an American company bought its U.S. operations.

Only the court’s ruling was made public, with the reasoning provided only to the government and TikTok. The ruling will, however, be made publicly available once both parties have submitted requests for any redactions.

TikTok stays in app stores as U.S. judge temporarily blocks ban

The original date of the app’s ban was set for September 20. But a tentative deal between TikTok and U.S. software giant Oracle announced on September 19. And it prompted Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to push the ban to September 27.

With the clock ticking and no further delay or removal of the proposed ban announced by the U.S. government. TikTok lawyers moved on Sunday to urge the judge to block the ban until the matter of TikTok’s future can be properly resolved.

TikTok lawyers argued that the proposed ban was “arbitrary and capricious”. And it could have an adverse on the security of data as it would prevent any required fixes from reaching the app via updates.

TikTok also claimed that the proposed ban would “prohibit core constitutionally protected speech: videos composed by millions of Americans containing a vast array of individual expression, ranging from art to political speech.”

But lawyers for the government said the ban was valid. Because TikTok’s connections to the Chinese government via its parent company ByteDance made it a national security issue.

Riot Games revealed latest Champion Roadmap for League of Legends

Riot Games has finally revealed its latest Champion Roadmap for League of Legends, sharing teasers of all the upcoming characters; including a “romantic” new jungler coming in Season 11.

With Yone, Lillia, Sett, and now Samira joining the League of Legends roster in 2020. Riot devs are already looking forward to the next batch of champions they plan on adding in the coming season.

Riot Games has already revealed major changes coming in Season 11, with a massive item overhaul expected to arrive in the preseason. And they have now revealed teasers for each of the champions expected to arrive before and during the next season.

League of Legends 11 Champion Roadmap

In Riot’s blog post on September 24, League of Legends dev Reav3 explained that, after Yone’s addition to the game, they were keen on introducing more characters as champions that may have already appeared or been mentioned in the lore of Runeterra.

Reav3 followed up hinting that one of the champions to be introduced would see yet another familiar character; explaining that they are “going to bring another character players have been longing for to the Rift next year.”

For this champion roadmap, Riot revealed that they still had a mid-lane Mage, who is expected to be confirmed as the mysterious character Seraphine, and a new Support champ, to add in 2020.

League of Legends
Seraphine is expected to be the “mid-lane mage” that Riot has been teasing.

New League of Legends Support champion

The new support character has been described as a “heavily-armored runaway criminal;” in the champion roadmap, leaving any enemies and their gear “twisted and shattered.”

While this new champion’s playstyle is currently unknown, Riot hinted that they may have some mobile abilities in their kit. Adding that the “criminal’s been known to mount a quick retreat when cornered;” although we will have to wait to see how that will translate in-game.

This fugitive is currently scheduled to be final champion released in 2020; although champion release dates are always subject to change.

New League of Legends Jungler teased for Season 11

Following the addition of Lillia in the Spirit Blossom event, it looks like Riot has yet another jungle skirmisher in the works. And they are expected to be the first champion released in early 2021.

“You may just find yourself falling for our romantic new jungle skirmisher, who will be twisting hearts and possessing minds early next year.” Riot Games teased, before sharing an image of a ring that ties in with the new champ.

League of Legends fans will likely have to wait for more information about the 2021 Jungler. But Riot seems to have plenty of champions lined up to keep fans entertained until then.

Dr. Mundo VGU Preview

After Riot announced that Mundo would be the next champion to receive a VGU. Following Fiddlesticks’ and Volibear’s rework, they have now provided an update on the Madman of Zaun.

The dev team shared that they are “going to keep Mundo’s gameplay pretty similar” overall but they plan on making him a difficult champion to lock down, by adding some form of CC immunity to his kit.

Riot also shared some concept art for the old champion’s rework, revealing a modern take on Mundo and giving fans a glimpse of what to expect from the VGU.

It is worth noting that as with many of these teasers, the Riot devs can still make changes before the champions are finally set live in-game.

‘Among Us’ Has Become So Successful That The Sequel Has Been Cancelled

There’s no question that Among Us has increased in popularity. When it was first released in 2018, little attention was given to it, particularly by many gamers.

However, this changed when it was brought to the attention of everyone by YouTubers and Twitch streamers. There’s a downside to all of this though, as developer Innersloth confirmed that Among Us 2 is cancelled, just two months after it was announced.

In a blog post, Innersloth said that they were planning to do a sequel because the codebase of the first game was so outdated and wasn’t built to support adding so much new content. However, with a lot of new people really enjoying Among Us, this resulted in the development team wanting “to be able to support the game and take it to the next level.”

The Sequel of Among Us Has Been Cancelled

By putting a stop to Among Us 2, this means that the focus is now going to be mainly spent on improving Among Us. It also means that all content planned for the sequel is going to the first one. Innersloth went on to say that it’s actually “the more difficult choice because it means going deep into the core code of the game and reworking several parts of it.”

Here are some of the plans being worked on with Among Us 2:

  • Servers

The development team continues to work in solving server issues. There is still no ETA on this, but things should be getting better over time.

  • Colorblind support

According to Innersloth, this is something that they have been putting off for quite some time. There is a plan to add other identifiers for players along with certain color focused tasks. This should allow for the chance to add more colors given that it was difficult to do so in the past after it became too difficult to tell players apart.
  • Friends/Account System

The team is finally going to have some time to work on this. This is going to take some time, but it’s sure to improve the game.A New Stage
This is still at the early stage and the team has just started designing the layout. Not to worry as the theme has been decided, which is a Henry Stickmin-themed location.

What do you think? Is cancelling the sequel a good decision? Let us know in the comments below.
