Snapchat knows when you were born – How does it work? Astrological profile is the Silent Mole

Some users panicked after it seemed like Snapchat knew when they were born.

It seems, you’re the one who told Snapchat about your date of birth or place of birth. The app’s exact knowledge of a user’s exact time, date, and birth location has been an issue for users on Twitter and TikTok for the past few days. But that’s because of the Snapchat’s Astrological Profile feature, not some nefarious new skill. This feature became popular last year.

Snapchat knows when you were born 2

You can see your “Astrological Birthdays” in Snapchat’s settings. And if you didn’t know you’d given the app all that information, that would be a pretty alarming find. However, checking baby photos won’t reveal that Snapchat Hot Dog has been with you since birth.

“Astrological Profile feature is the cause”, Snapchat told.

As Snapchat claims. The birth date and time information shown above is actually inputted by the users to get more specific information for the astrological profile feature. This feature requires exact date and time of birth from each person in order to accurately calculate their star chart reading. In addition, Snapchat also states that it takes the privacy of personally identifiable information very seriously. And that this detailed birth date and time information is only used for this astrological profile feature.

Snapchat launched Astrological Profiles in November 2020 as a way for users to share and compare horoscopes across their stories and check their relative compatibility with friends. You shared your date of birth with Snapchat when you created your profile. The new astrology features just go a step further to ask the time and place of your birth.

One side effect of allowing Snapchat to act as an astrologer is that the app now has full details of your date of birth and place of birth stored in the “Birthday” section of your settings as “My Astrological Birthday.” Snapchat doesn’t share any birth info unless you want to (your date of birth with friends at most). And you can delete that specific birth time and location at any time with a single tap. No individual pieces of information are particularly damaging on their own. But it’s a good illustration of how apps can collect information about you over time, even if it’s never shared or necessarily used by the app.

This confusion may be because Snapchat has so many interesting but easy to forget features.

Does Dark Mode Save Battery Life?

Does Dark Mode Save Battery Life?

We’ve heard for a while that’s about enabling dark mode on your phone can increase your phone’s battery life.

Dark mode on your phone can increase your phone’s battery life?

Though, Purdue University’s researchers report that, the battery life increase isn’t as great as you may have thought. Plus, a pure black background doesn’t yield many benefits over the dark gray background found in most apps when dark mode is enabled. The research found that it doesn’t give you any major efficiency gains from enabling darkmode unless you’re looking at it from specific scenarios. The most fruitful battery life gains were found when switching from light mode at full brightness to dark mode.

The researchers in the Purdue study (via Android Authority), looked at dark mode power usage from six different applications. Calculator, Google Calendar, Google Maps, Google News, Google Phone, and YouTube were all tested on a Pixel 2, Moto Z3, Pixel 4, and a Pixel 5 — all phones with OLED screens, of course. The researchers tested the power draw when running each of these apps in dark mode for 60 seconds. The researchers said they built a set of tools to accurately measure power draw in pixels.

.

“When the industry rushed to adopt dark mode, it didn’t have the tools yet to accurately measure power draw by the pixels,” said Charlie Hu, Purdue’s Michael and Katherine Birck Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “But now we’re able to give developers the tools they need to give users more energy-efficient apps.”
At around 30%-50% brightness, the researchers found that switching from light mode to dark mode only saved between 3% and 9% power on average. However, switching the other way around at 100% brightness can save as much as an average of 47% battery power.

“Tests done in the past to compare the effects of light mode with dark mode on battery life have treated the phone as a black box, lumping in OLED display with the phone’s other gazillion components. Our tool can accurately isolate the portion of battery drain by the OLED display,” said Pranab Dash, a Purdue Ph.D. student who worked with Hu on the study.

There were other interesting findings too, including that using the Google News app in light mode at 20% brightness on the Pixel 5 draws the same amount of power as when the phone is at 50% brightness in dark mode. Therefore, you can increase the brightness if the bright display bothers you when using it without using much more power overall.

The study also mentions that Android’s battery consumption details do not take dark mode into account, so the team developed a tool called “Android Battery+” which does. The researchers want to open source their display profiling tool and also add the Android Battery+ feature into AOSP.

Snapchat Down: Unknown issue has caused users a failure to log in to the app

Snapchat is down

The company has acknowledged this to users via Twitter. An unknown issue is believed to be the cause of this. This issue has prevented users from logging in to the app and unable to continue accessing Snapchat. They are working on a fix for this problem.

In early June of last year, Snapchat also faced a major problem when it encountered many problems on the app after the update. However, the way to fix that is not through its servers, but something that users should do in their phones.

Now they have another problem, but it cannot be easily fixed as it is for the company.

Snapchat Down Unknown issue has caused users a failure to log in to the app 2

Currently, Snapchat users can launch the app but cannot continue to sign in. Normally, everyday users would only load its app and proceed to its homepage where a camera is already waiting. ut now, well, it stuck itself on the login or sign-up page.

Users post memes and reaction photos or GIFs to Twitter to explain their current status when they check out and log into Snapchat.

It was just a normal day for people to use the app, share stories, talk to friends, and view their feeds, but it couldn’t be done due to this server outage.

Snapchat Fix

Currently, users and Snapchat are waiting for fixes and updates from their support team. And users will face the problem that they may not use the app for the rest of the afternoon. Don’t worry, as problems like this should be resolved within a few hours and it won’t take much up to a day for it to work again.

May was a successful month for Snapchat, especially as it introduced many additions to the app brought about by its innovation presentation. This includes a dark mode for Snapchat that will be enabled or disabled by the user; either default depending on the time or system of the phone.

On the other hand, this is also where the fourth generation Snapchat Spectacles has empowered itself, looking more into augmented reality, far better than its previous tech glasses.

Microsoft’s new Surface Pro 7 Plus and Surface Laptop 4 reflected in this quarter’s earnings. The company’s revenue of Surface hardware has fell 20% due to the chip shortage. As known, Surface hardware sales was particularly strong during the same quarter last year from the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Office’s consumer product revenue increased 19% and the Business Suite was up 20%. Microsoft reported up 22% Microsoft 365 subscribers for the quarter, up to 51.9 million people. Azure grew by 51%, Cloud revenue is up 34%, and Microsoft’s cloud services revenue is up 53%.

It is expected that later this year, Microsoft will release Windows 11. They hopes to boost Windows OEM revenue. Less PCs are shipping due the chip shortage. Windows OEM and Hardware revenue should stabilize once the chip constraints do the same. It may happen later into 2022.
